If you are getting ready to remodel your bathroom, there are multiple steps you can take to make the area feel spacious, regardless of the actual square footage of the space.
Use Recess Features
If you want to open up space in your bathroom, you are going to want to use recess features in your bathroom.
To make the room feel taller, instead of putting scones on the wall or lights over the mirror that stick add, use recess lighting in the bathroom. Recessing lighting can provide all the illumination that you need. When you add the lights, be sure to install a dimmer switch. This will allow you to enjoy bright lights when you are getting ready in the morning and more relaxed lighting when you are taking a soak in the bathtub in the evening.
To reduce the space that cabinets take up, use a recessed medicine cabinet. You can even add a recessed toilet roll holder and soap dish as well. These small adjustments will save space and make the area feel larger.
Think Carefully About Colors
The way you use colors will really define how large or small your space feels. If your bathroom isn't big on the square footage, stick with light colors. Don't paint the room dark colors, as they will make the space feel smaller than it is. That doesn't mean the bathroom has to be a stark white; you can paint it a light purple or a light blue or another light color tone. Or you can paint three of the walls a white or off-white shade and paint one wall a beautiful accent color.
Add Extra Mirrors to the Space
Most people just put a mirror over their sink. However, if you want the space to feel more open, consider adding more than one mirror to the bathroom. Keep the mirror above the bathroom sink, but add a second mirror somewhere in the bathroom. The second mirror may be a more stylish mirror in a frame, instead of the large mirror you have over your sink. This mirror can be more decorative but can also serve as a nice second mirror when you are getting ready with other people in your bathroom.
When you are bathroom remodeling, you should recess as many features as you can to open up space. Use light colors to make the space feel large. Add extra mirrors to the space to relax light and open up the space.
