Remodeling your kitchen gives you the opportunity to make it exactly how you've always dreamed. However, you may not know what's possible when it comes to custom kitchen cabinets. Here are some design ideas that you should be aware of when choosing new kitchen cabinets.
Hidden Waste Basket
There is no need to have your trash can free standing within your kitchen. You can hide your trash and recycling bins in pull-out drawers that are big enough to hold a plastic container. Ideally, these are located near your sink and prep area so that you can move food waste directly to the trash.
Door Mounted Racks
There is so much storage space wasted by not utilizing the inside of your doors. Having small door-mounted storage racks can help give those odd-shaped items a place to go. For example, you can store those long and narrow packages of plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or store the pans that take up too much space in a cabinet.
Plasticware Storage
Everyone has that drawer that is filled with odd-shaped plasticware. Give it a home by building a custom drawer that is specific to storing the containers and lids. It will make it much easier to find the pieces that you need when you want to use them.
Sliding Utensil Drawers
Tall drawers are helpful for storing items that are odd sizes, but they can be quite a waste of space when it comes to storing your utensils. Consider adding a sliding utensil drawer that takes a tall drawer and doubles your storage space by stacking two trays on top of each other. Keep your everyday utensils on top, and then slide the top tray back to reveal the odd-shaped utensils underneath.
Pull Out Spice Rack
One item that you can move off the countertops and into a cabinet is the spice rack. Thankfully, the slim nature of spices means that the spice rack can be hidden away as a really thin rack in your upper or lower cabinets. You'll be able to see what spices you have from both sides of the pull-out spice rack, making it easy to grab exactly what you want.
Hidden Paper Towel Roll
Another item that can be hidden in your cabinets is the paper towel roll. By recessing the paper towel roll into the bottom of the upper cabinets, it moves the item off the countertop and into a place that is easy to reach and out of sight.
